Illustration Friday: The Zoo
Posted on: November 28th, 2007
Wow, it’s been a while since I last did a piece for Illustration Friday, but with a theme like ‘The Zoo’, I knew it was time to jump right back in.
This piece is based on the London Underground ‘commuter zoo’ that I used to deal with daily before I became Location Independent.
And here are a couple of details…
The animals in this piece were created using acrylic paint washes & coloured pencil - the train was digital.
Possible Future Project (UPDATE)
Posted on: November 26th, 2007
UPDATE:
I spoke with the author a few days ago, who phoned and said that he was calling to sell himself to me as he really wanted me to be the artist on his project (huge ego boost for me) - he really didn’t have much selling to do as I was already really excited about working on the project! Anyway, the financial aspect has all been agreed upon and so I am on board.
I’ll post some more details about the project specifics shortly - all I can say for the moment is that I’m now off to grab some mongoose images from the internet to start sketching and studying what these creatures look like from all angles!
I have been liaising with an author for the past week about possibly doing the artwork for a graphic novel that he has created. It would be an exciting project to work on as he is a really nice guy and the whole project is very epic and well thought out. Plus, with races of different anthropomorphic creatures, I would get to combine two of my favourite things - comics and animals! My initial reaction was to go for it as it would be very challenging and a lot of fun to work on, but I have been stung recently with accepting projects where there is very little budget for what would be hours and hours of work just because I’d enjoy working on it - so I have to think really carefully about this one.
Anyway, for now, here is a little bit of concept art that I created for the author - unfortunately it won’t make a whole lot of sense out of context…
And the pen and ink drawing for anyone interested…
More details to follow if I’m offered the project and decide to take it.
