Illustration Friday: The Zoo
Posted on: November 28th, 2007
Wow, it’s been a while since I last did a piece for Illustration Friday, but with a theme like ‘The Zoo’, I knew it was time to jump right back in.
This piece is based on the London Underground ‘commuter zoo’ that I used to deal with daily before I became Location Independent.
And here are a couple of details…
The animals in this piece were created using acrylic paint washes & coloured pencil - the train was digital.

Yes, I experienced a similar type of zoo while riding the transit on Chicago (what’s that smell??). Great illustration!

I love the concept and the way there’s a resigned yet trapped look on all the animals’ faces.

Thanks for taking the time to comment guys - it’s always cool to get great feedback.
Kate: you’re right about the smell - crammed into a hot and sweaty tube train at the end of a summer day isn’t too pleasant.
